What We Do

Why We Run

As runners we intimately engage with the land every day, with each step. And, wherever we run, the land belonged and belongs still to Indigenous people. Our Indigenous relatives are the original stewards of the land and have the ancestral knowledge to protect and heal the land. ReNew Earth Running was created to go beyond land acknowledgments and go toward Land Back.

 Our Mission

Running to protect and heal the environment by restoring land to the stewardship of Tribal Nations and Indigenous leadership.

Through the fundraising efforts of the ReNew Earth Running Team we will help fund environmental protection and healing efforts led by Tribal Nations and other Indigenous organizations. We hope to provide assistance throughout Indian Country and have a positive impact on the environment.

  • Haulin' Pollen 5k

On August 21, 2021, RER hosted our inaugural Haulin’ Pollen 5k in support of Lower Phalen Creek Project (LPCP). The 5k was a part of LPCP’s annual Pollinator Festival.

LPCP is a Native-led nonprofit that conserves an urban landscape in St. Paul, MN centered around Wakan Tipi, a Dakota sacred site.

Thanks to the generous race sponsors and over 120 runners, RER was able to donate $5,000 to LPCP to support their work caring for Unci Maka.

  • Run for Puvungna - Protect Sacred Sites & Lands

RER had the honor of being invited by our friends at Rising Hearts to be a co-host for the Run for Puvungna Virtual Runs March 20-28, 2021.

These runs provided support for Friends of Puvungna to support their advocacy and awareness about protection of this sacred site. The runs also raised awareness about the need to protect other sacred sites and public lands in general, like Protect Oak Flat, Protect Bears Ears, Pine Mountain, San Marcos Foothills, Mauna Kea and countless other sites.

  • Truthsgiving 4 Miler 2021

RER partnered again with Rising Hearts from November 25-28, 2021 to co-host the Truthsgiving 4 Miler. The primary point of this run was to provide education about the truth of the annual holiday and help people gain a new perspective.

Proceeds from this race benefited the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe, the tribe that first contacted the Pilgrims, and NDN Collective LandBack Initiative. The proceeds also went to support the work of Rising Hearts and RER.
